YANELI’S STORY
When Yaneli discovered she was pregnant at 19, she wasn’t sure what to do next.
Feeling overwhelmed, she searched online for guidance and came across Caring Network. The center offered her a free ultrasound and medical check-up so she could learn more about her pregnancy and consider her options.
At first, Yaneli had been leaning toward abortion. But during the ultrasound appointment, something changed. When she heard the heartbeat, the pregnancy suddenly felt very real. In that moment, she realized she wanted to continue her pregnancy.
“Once you hear a heartbeat, it was, I can’t do that to someone.”
Even with that decision, she still carried fears—especially about how others might react. Worried about what people, including her father, might think, Yaneli kept her pregnancy private for several months.
In the spring of 2023, Yaneli welcomed a healthy baby boy named Mateo.
Despite her earlier concerns, her father responded with joy and has been a strong source of support for both Yaneli and Mateo.
Becoming a mother changed the way Yaneli sees the future. She now feels a deep sense of purpose and motivation, knowing she has someone who looks up to her.
Today, she looks ahead with hope, believing that she and her son have a bright future together.
