The Significance of Adoption

Adoption reflects one of the deepest truths about ourselves;: as Paul writes in Romans, we “eagerly await our adoption” as sons and daughters of God (Romans 8:23). Our highest fulfillment will be found on the day that our adoption is fully realized by grace.

We have the remarkable joy of being able to share this truth in tangible ways here and now. Through adoption, we extend the grace we ourselves have been shown as we seek to bring a new child into a safe, loving home. Christ says in the Gospel of Matthew that whoever welcomes children in His name welcomes Him (Matthew 18:5). Families considering adoption answer Christ’s call to care for the most vulnerable in Christ’s name, while more deeply understanding the depths of grace that each of us has been shown in our own adoption into God’s Kingdom.

How to Support the Call of Adoption

Yet, adoption is not always possible for all families. The costs and requirements can be substantial, and not all families have the means or ability to bear those costs. However, even if adoption is not an option for you, consider supporting the wonderful ministry of adoption in alternate ways. You can help make adoption a more viable option for others through your care for them and their new child. In supporting families who are able to choose adoption, you can still share in the beautiful story of adoption.

Chances are, someone you know has adopted or is considering adoption. Minimizing the shopping trips and spending costs parents need to take to care for their new child is just one of many ways to make adoption more feasible for others. The gifts of diapers, clothing, formulas, or other baby products would be a huge blessing to any family seeking to care for a new child in their home. To offer any kind of financial help in the form of items, groceries, or other kinds of financial support that can help decrease the overall costs of adoption is an extremely practical way to care for adoptive families.

New parents can be blessed by other kinds of support as well. Many parents would be thrilled to have help ranging from the spiritual and emotional support of prayer and encouragement, to the logistical support with things such as meals or childcare. Knowing that others are committed to walk with them in their journey of raising a new child would be a significant blessing to adoptive families.

Additionally, many churches have adoption-focused events such as diaper, clothing, or formula drives that donate items to individuals within the church, or to adoption ministries. This can be a fantastic way to support families who choose to adopt even if you do not personally know an adoptive family. These item drives remind us that we can easily pick up a few baby items while we’re already out shopping. Chances are, many of the places we shop for ourselves offer some of these much-needed baby items as well. If your church does not have adoption drives, consider raising the possibility with your church to come together and partner with individuals or organizations seeking to make adoption possible.

Adoption is a life-giving choice that Caring Network is here to support. We are here to come alongside any woman facing an unplanned pregnancy, not only in their moment of decision-making, but beyond. We works closely with many Baby Banks in the surrounding area that take donations for formula, diapers, clothes, and more! These Baby Banks at select churches within the area give women and families practical, material help, and dispurse the supplies to those in need. Donating supplies is a great way to show support for life-giving options like adoption! Find out more here
